Guild of Heroes delivers everything the classic fantasy has to offer, with devious dwarves and ancient elves, nasty orc shamans and troll sorcery, epic action and dark caves, quests and raids as befits the best medieval style RPG in the lineage of tabletop games. The epic journey through the huge, colorful game world is not only fairy tales of mystic dungeons and dragons, but also battle against mages in the arena, controlled by other players! All adventures start with a band of goblins that fall to your sword. Gain loot from dungeons and chests that you find on the floor. Also, look at the shading on the wheat and pumpkins. Healing potions have timers before you could obtain them. It's a very odd design choice by the designers as this is the only place where the timers matter. There are cooldowns between potion usage as well, so there's no point in carrying a lot of potion. Each player rolls four dice which determine what hero types are available for him to recruit (the types are fighters, thieves, clerics and wizards of course!). He can purchase any or all of them for a standard price, or set them up for others to buy at a higher price on their recruitment turn. Each player can use accumulated
Players take turns assigning parties to adventures. (Only one guild can assign heroes to any one adventure.) There are six adventures to be found on the board. (Dungeon Delve, Urban Escapade, Pilgrimage, Arcane Ritual, Courtly Intrigue, and Promotional Appearances.) The different adventure types yield different rewards (for example, promotional appearances simply award two Treasures per hero assigned, and Urban Escapades award a free recruit--if anyone survives) and moreover, each hero who survives an adventure gets treasure and a class-based reward as well. (Fighters find weapons, clerics find potions, thieves find extra treasure, wizards find artifacts.) These rewards are put into the guild's pool of resources. The adventures are resolved. The basic mechanic is this. Each adventure type is associated with a list pairing hero types to values. These values determine how likely that hero type is to survive the adventure.
For example, the Dungeon Delve adventure assigns fighters a value of 2, meaning any fighter who rolls a 2 or above survives the adventure. Variety in a party is important, because for each complete set of fighter, thief, cleric and wizard in a party, a single hero death is prevented. Weapons allow a single die roll to be raised by one. Potions also prevent a single death. Note: There is a mechanic which varies the difficulty of each adventure type from round to round, both randomizing the difficulty and increasing it over time. Guilds can sell accumulated weapons and potions at lower prices than they can be bought for in the buy phase. The game procedes for eight or nine rounds (depending on number of players). At the end, the guild's score is simply three times the number of artifiacts plus the number of heroes in the guild. The highest score wins. Treasure to buy weapons and potions to accompany his heroes on their adventures. Crush your enemies. Each of them will have unique behaviors and skills. Find their weak spots and leave them with no chance of defeating you. Defeat mighty bosses. These children of the dark have evolved to become almost invincible. They only fear their own Dark Lords.
